About
My name is JD King. I was raised in Wyoming and Colorado and moved to Marshall, Missouri, when I was twelve. I went to High School there and then to a small four-year school called Missouri Valley College. I got married and started a family. In 1998 I came to Columbia, MO, and became a full-time student, completing my MFA at the University of Missouri in 2001. I remarried and now live in Columbia with my wife Sally; I paint and make art pretty much every day. I am also a security officer at a psychiatric facility here in Columbia.
I am devoted to making the best art work I can. I make images that are important to me and that I think might be important to other people. Susan Langer has a definition of art that makes sense to me. She says, "Art is the conveyance of knowledge about emotion through symbolic form." I hope you enjoy my work. This site is an attempt to give you a general idea of what I am capable of. It will change as I sell things and come up with new work. I am open to suggestion and do take commissions.
Thanks for visiting,
-- JD King
