Invitation To New Patrons
This is an invitation for you to look at my paintings and possibly find something you would like to own. This new website has been designed to give you the opportunity to purchase my artwork online. Here you can browse, purchase, and undertake services that I offer.
I have been painting and making art in various media for most of my adult life. I became interested in making paintings as my main course of study in my undergraduate career, and also by becoming involved in ceramics. After several years of teaching pottery, I became a welder in both professional and artistic capacities. In the late 1990s, I returned to what was always the most comfortable medium for me: I started painting again, acquiring a Master's in the process. This website is an offering of those paintings, with a few things from the mid-90s thrown in for good luck.
In my studies at the University of Missouri, I learned about what I felt was really important regarding my work. I think undergraduate work is about learning the technical aspects of making art, and from my experience, I found that graduate school was about learning how to defend that same work. I got a lot of practice at the latter in my studies at MU, and I think that has been very helpful.
It has taken me a considerable amount of time to become comfortable in offering my work on the internet. In building this site I noticed that during some years I did several paintings, and in other years, not so much. When I first started out I thought, “Well Jeez, if I've done three paintings in the last month, by the end of a couple of years I ought to have a pretty good collection.” It didn't quite work out that way. The paintings are an outward manifestation of a lot of inward processing. Circumstances change, and ways of seeing and relating to life change as well.
If you see a piece of my work that really hits a resonate note with you and you want it, I am honored. When you purchase a piece, it is my hope that you will find out more about it as time progresses: interesting aspects that give substance, solace, or some kind of understanding about our shared reality. I have always been very protective of my right to paint what, and how, I want to paint. I think it takes courage to be honest about internal observations and emotions--things which are both personal and universal at the same time--and to continue to work on a discipline that enables us to communicate feelings about them.
Thank you for your patronage, and for visiting my new site. I hope it has been and will continue to be a pleasant and rewarding experience. I have done my best to make this work, and to make it available. By becoming the owner of one of my paintings, I believe you will have something that can continue to give meaning to this lovely world we call home, and I am happy to share the work, and the world, with you.
