Commissions

JD takes work on a commission basis and is open to doing portraiture of people, places, and/or things that prospective customers may want rendered. JD does work from photographs and can usually work from photos sent to him in Columbia, Missouri. This method is suitable for many projects. He is also open to the possibility of having someone sit for a portrait either in Columbia or in a location of the customer's choice. This kind of arrangement also can extend to landscapes, or location-specific projects such as murals and installations, although these endeavors are somewhat costly and time consuming. Arrangements of this sort necessitate communication about when, where, and under what circumstances such projects can take place.

The policy concerning payment for commissioned work is the following: 50% of the price of the work payed up front, the remaining 50% of the price paid upon completion. The upfront payment is nonrefundable if the work has been completed on time and according to the terms of execution in the original agreement. For any inquiries or more information, contact jd@jdkingart.com. If you interested talking about commissions, please send a phone number where you can be contacted in your email, and JD will follow up with you by phone.

Examples of Commissions

El Rancho Mexican Restaurant
El Rancho, located at 1014 East Broadway Columbia, MO, commissioned me to paint the interior of their restaurant. In working with the owners, JD developed a theme that blends the university atmosphere with archetypes of Mexican culture. The theme was then painted directly on the walls, with various interrelated scenes and narratives.

Portraits & Renderings
JD has had many private commissions with individuals requesting portraits, done from photographs and live settings. These most often occur in oil and canvas, but other media are possible. These renderings are of superb quality and increase in value, making them ideal gifts or keepsakes. As JD works from photographs, the subject does not need to be present--or even aware--for the work to be completed.

Wedding Portraits
As a new commissioned service, JD is now available to do renderings of couples for wedding portraits, preserving important images by committing them to oil and canvas. This process is done by hand, working from a photograph of the couple's choosing. This process involves significant planning, and will require a written release from any third-party photographer authorizing the use of the photograph for a derivative work.
